George Alan Campbell B Arch Rand, MIArch, KZ-NIA, ARIBA ( Ret )

His works are signed as G. A. Campbell, although he would often sign his correspondence as G. Alan. Campbell, as at an early age he dropped the "George" preferring to be known simply as Alan.

Alan was an architect by profession, who retired aged 40 to follow his passion as an artist. He successfully combined his professional abilities and his understanding of perspective, (having completed his architectural thesis on perspective), with his exceptional mastery of oils and water-colours, to create magnificent landscapes and seascapes.

He is recognised as an exceptional portrait painter having been commissioned to paint or sketch many of South Africa's foremost business leaders, including Ernest and Harry Oppenhiemer.

He is additionally recognised as one of the world leaders in perspective painting, which is the illustration of buildings and projects from architectural plans. In the days before CAD (computer aided design) this was the only method to illustrate buildings or projects prior to them being built. (See his biography here)
